✅ ATS Format Checklist
- Use standard section headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills
- Save as .docx or .pdf (not .pages, not .odt)
- Use a single-column layout (no tables, no columns, no text boxes)
- Font: Arial, Calibri, or Helvetica, 10-12pt
- No headers/footers with contact info (some ATS skip these)
- No images, icons, or graphics (ATS can't read them)
- Use standard bullet points (•), not custom symbols
- Include both the acronym AND full term: "AWS (Amazon Web Services)"
- Match job title EXACTLY if it fits your experience
- Keep it to 1-2 pages (1 page for <10 years experience)
💯 Do's & Don'ts
✅ DO
- Tailor resume for EACH job application
- Quantify achievements: "Increased sales by 35%"
- Place keywords in context (not just a list)
- Use active verbs: Led, Built, Optimized, Launched
- Run your resume through our free ATS checker
- Include a Skills section with both hard and soft skills
- Use month+year date format: "Jan 2023 - Present"
- Proofread 3 times, then have someone else proofread
❌ DON'T
- ✗ Use creative job titles ("Code Ninja" → "Software Engineer")
- ✗ Include photos (unless applying in countries where it's standard)
- ✗ Use PDF if the job posting specifically asks for Word
- ✗ Keyword stuff (ATS detects this and may penalize)
- ✗ Use "I", "me", or "my" (use implied first person)
- ✗ List references ("Available upon request" is outdated)
- ✗ Submit without running an ATS check first
- ✗ Lie about skills (recruiters verify everything)
